Ipad 3. What is the latest Operating system it can run on?

Hi all.
I'm a long time OSX user but I'm new to IOS. I've just bought an Ipad 3 and wanted to ask you guy's what is the latest IOS it can run on? And where and how do I update it?

Hello,

The iPad (3rd Generation) will run up to iOS 9.3.5. To update, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. It will search and tell you the latest version it can download and install.

NOTE: It is always best to have a current backup in iTunes or iCloud. Also, some apps may not function in a newer version of iOS, depending on what version your were previously running.
