Saving Word documents/incompatibility.

On a Mac OS X 10.6.8. Under Compatibility result, says Word 6.0/95 comp. options are set but it is impossible to reset to the suggested Word 2000-2004 and X in the explanation box despite going to Word preferences/compat etc.Have done a repair disc and verify disc with no change.
What to do next ??.
