Remove Chrome Icon From Desktop

It sounds like it wasn't installed properly, and it is mounting the disk image when it is clicked in the Dock...in effect, running from the disk image.

Make sure you drag the app from the disk image to your Applications folder. Delete the icon from the Dock, and drag a new one from the app in the Applications folder.

That should correct the situation.
