hi
i have a macbook OSX tiger
basically earlier on today the mac was fine
then it started to work lagging a little bit, but i was working on a powerpoint file that was quite big
i turned off the macbook for half an hour and when i turned it on it acted very weird (and still is)
basically it starts up fine, i can log in and the desktop shows. the dock appears and so does the finder bar at the top loads fine.
the icons i have on my desktop load, then suddenly the arrow goes to a spinning wheel. i notice that none of the icons where the clock is situated load (i must have about 5 up there)
after about a minute of the wheel spinning, the page kind of looks likes it refreshes, and either the icons or the finder bar disappear
the arrow comes back, but i cannot open anything though it seems normal when putting the arrow over an application in the dock
every few minutes is just does that refreshing page thing, and it gets no where
i even started the mac in safe mode, but it even does the same there too.

can anyone help?

i have got a deadline and no computer to work on :(

Hello,
Have you tried setting up another user's account?

well i did try, but it refreshes so often that i cannot get any chance to create one
i had read about that in another forum

i rang up a mac specialist in my area and he said to try this:
shut down the laptop
when turned on again, on the first chime
press Alt, apple key, P and R
and release when you hear the 2nd chime

but it didnt change anything

That's called zapping the PRAM. If you're not running an Intel Mac, how about giving AppleJack a shot?
