Home button dilemma

I just got an iPhone SE 3d Gen. I haven't had a 'Home button' iPhone before, and I was expecting the home button to work by tapping, not pressing until there's a haptic response. Was I just wrong in my expectation, or is there some setting for changing it? Similar to the 'point to click' setting for the Macbooks' trackpad. Thanks

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Normally, the Home button needs to be pressed to function, as tapping isn't available other than resting your finger if you have Touch ID enabled.

What is it you are trying to do with the Home button?

Just use it. Nothing special. After 12 years of mac trackpads and iPhones that just require a tap, actually pressing the button forces me to stop and think.....

But thanks for confirming that what I'm seeking doesn't exist.
