Please don't laugh!!
Is it possible for a macbook pro to download from the "net" without your knowing it???
I was under the impression the computer always asked if you wanted to download before downloading.
I have a current issue with a satellite provider over download MB's I know I didn't make.
I just want to cover all bases before proceeding further with them!

There's nothing funny about that, it's a perfectly legit querie.

If you've got something like Little Snitch installed it can look for processes that download in the background and alert you to it .... other than that, these days there is a lot of connections going on in the background between Mac OS X & Apple etc ... Google do it too ... probably Adobe would etc.

You need to look at the data table for the particular timeslot where this download took place and work out if the computer was online/in use etc ... If you log into your ISPs website's toolbox you should be able to view this info.
