mail downloading signal

when i turn on entourage i continually get the beeping sound of messages downloading even when there are no messages to download?

Hello and welcome.

We need some additional information to try and troubleshoot:

-Which version of OS X?
-Which version of Microsoft Office/Entourage?
-How many email accounts are setup?
-Do you have any rules/filters setup?
-Have you left Entourage open overnight to allow all email to be processed?
-Is there email collecting in a junk folder perhaps?
-Do you happen to have Skype installed and running as well?
