Hello,
You should still be able to preview songs in the iTunes Store in the Music app, even if you do not have an Apple Music subscription. Make sure you are in the Store > iTunes Store section in the left sidebar in the Music app. You should then be able to navigate to an album or song, place your cursor over the track name, which will change your cursor to a preview play icon. You can then click to hear the 30 second sample.
