hello. for christmas, i know i am getting an iMac (the 1.83 ghz, 17"). and i read all of the stuff about the airport base and whatnot..and i also read the wireless internet threads on here. however, i am still a bit confused..

if my family already has wireless internet (comcast)...do i still need to buy the apple airport base? or can the mac go wireless with just the netgear router?

sorry to be a bit of an annoyance, i was just sort of confused

Hello maril and Welcome!

If you already have a wireless router, you should be all set. When you start up or new toy for the first time, it will ask how you would like to connect to the internet. Select Wireless, and it should find your network. That's all! You DO NOT need an Apple Airport Base station if you already have a wireless router. I have Comcast at my house. The modem is connected to a linksys router. No problems! If you need more help during your setup, let us know!

Cheers and Merry Christmas!
