1. What exact Mac model do you have?
2. What exact Mac OS are you running now?
3. Do you use any third party software?
4. This is critical: are you making backups to an external device?

Looks like the mid 2012 model is not compatible

Not sure why you would want to upgrade to Big Sur anyway, as it still has issues.

If you are using the latest version of Catalina (OS 10.15.7), you are really good to go. If you, then if you can answer the remaining 3 questions I asked, that would be helpful.

Oops! My FAT fingers got in the way again. That last sentence should say:
