Transfered email from eMac to MacBook Pro unusuable

I did this using Time Machine and I also burned a CD on my eMac (OSX10.4.11) and downloaded it onto my MacBook Pro (OSX10.5.8). The trouble is the messages are in a separate folder. The actual emails are in the form of separate numbered emix files listed with date and size of file. Since I have to open each, it is impossible (or at least way time consuming) to find an email I am looking for. Part of the problem I believe is that I changed my administrator's password from the old to the new computer (actually I am the only user then and now). Is there anyway to get these old emails listed with sender, subject, and date like on regular email?

Yes, Mail changed a lot from 10.4 to 10.5, You need to use the File > Import, I seem to remember.
