On ancient Macs, it used to be that having too many applications open would slow everything dramatically, and even cause errors. Presumably that was because memory sharing was being done with a hard disk. Now that I've moved up to Monterey, with an M1 Mac with SSD disk, I can keep loads of applications open simultaneously with no issues. Is that simply the result of using an SSD for data sharing?
