I want to save some of my text messages from iPhone 7 to Mac running Catalina. How do I do this? Thanks.

Hello and welcome.

-Which model Mac?
-Which version of iOS on the iPhone 7?
-Do you have iCloud and Messages setup on the Mac?
-In what form are you trying to save them on the Mac?

Thanks for your input; here's my answer:
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) using macOS Catalina
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • I have an iCloud account (not an email) for documents, but it's online not on the Mac
  • Yes, on iMessages on the Mac
  • I have no preference for format for saving the messages, I have just a few conversations I need to archive

OK, thanks.

The easiest ways if the messages are in the Messages app on the Mac are to have a Time Machine backup and/or simply print the messages to a PDF from the Messages app.

There are also third-party apps that can export and archive messages from the Mac. I am not sure about from iOS and the iPhone, as I don't have any experience with saving messages/texts.

Does that help at all?

This is not necessarily the best way, but it's how I'd do it.
Copy/paste all the messages into a single Notes file.
Share the Notes file.
Airdrop it to the Mac. It will go to a notes file there.
