Read mode only

Whenever I'm trying to work with an external hard disc it is open in read mode only, what can I do?

It is in the MicroSoft NTFS format, to write to it it needs to be in FAT32 or better yet OSX Journaled.

Reformat the drive with Disk Utility. This will DELETE all the contents of the drive.
