Hello,

Anyone Using Parallels and USB Memory sticks ?

Parallels will not recognize, for me, any USB Memory Stick without going
thru the very convoluted steps outlined in their KB 111725 writeup.

Would have to go thru this extensive routine, apparently, each and every time a new USB Stick is inserted.

Not very practical.
Surprised they haven't really addressed this, and come up with a simple way.

Any of you folks come up with a different way of reading USB Sticks under Parallels, as
soon as inserted, as with regular Windows, or MAC OS ?

Thanks,
Bob

Hello,

Glad you got it formatted in your other thread.

-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Which version of Parallels?
-Which version of Windows in your Parallels VM?

I just tested it on my Mac - Sierra/Parallels 11.2.3/Windows 10 Pro, and when a USB flash drive is inserted, it prompts me to select whether it mounts on the Mac or Windows. You can hold the Command (Alt) key when making a selection to remember it. I believe that is per flash drive.

Hi Cory,

Thanks for help.

Sure is interesting.
I would certainly settle for the msg. you get asking where to mount the USB Stick,
but I don't get it. Wonder why ?

I am running High Sierra 10.13.5
Parallels 13

Not sure of the windows 10 version that Parallels is using, but it is only a few months old; fairly new.
(not a good time for me to switch to Parallels, at the moment)

My Windows 10 is not the Pro version.
Think this is the reason why the difference ?
Might be on top of the list for the possibilities ?

This stuff, at my age now, sure does serve to keep all the neurons exercised,
which they tell me is very important !

Regards,
Bob

No problem.

It has always worked for me the way I described. It does the same prompt when running Windows 7 Pro and Windows XP in the same version of Parallels. Not sure why your aren't getting the prompt.

You could check the settings in Parallels for the Windows virtual machine you are running. Below are the settings mine is using:

Click USB Connection Preferences... in the window above for the options below:

Hi,

All set now.

The key was the "ask me what to do" box.

Thanks for all the time and help. Nice of you.
Much appreciated.
