iMac 27-Inch 2017
1TB Hard Drive
APPLE SSD SM0032L
Under About this Mac>Storage It shows there is 505.8GB available with nothing showing as purgeable
When doing a Get Info on the disk it shows the same available with 487.11GB purgeable
When looking at disk utility it shows only 18.6GB free.

Any way I can reclaim all that space?
Main reason is I would like to upgrade to Monterey from Big Sur, but the download won't even complete, because I believe it's out of space.

Any ideas?

Hello and welcome.
  • Which exact model 2017 iMac?
  • Does it have a 1 TB Fusion Drive by chance?
  • Can you upload some screenshots of the About This Mac > Storage and Disk Utility windows?

It is an apple drive. Also I was able to get it to purge the data by disabling SIP. Once I rebooted with SIP disabled, it started purging, once it was purged I went ahead and enabled SIP. I disabled SIP for another reason and solved this issue. :)
