I have bought some RAM but not working on Mac Pro 6.1 (2013) A1481 - should work 1866 MHz - ECC - 240 pin - DDR3

The New RAM Specs - SK Hynix 32GB 4RX4 PC3-14900L DDR3-1866Mhz 240Pin 1.5V ECC Registered LRDIMM Server Memory RAM

can anyone tell me where I went wrong - difficult to know what they mean by 'Server' as a China supplier. Scan.jpeg

Should be able to return as good Shopping Site many suppliers

Hello,

Spec is: 240-pin PC3-14900 (1866 MHz) DDR3 ECC SDRAM

64.0GB OWC Memory Upgrade Kit

"Apple Mac Pro 2013 models utilizes ECC non-Registered for 4GB and 8GB per slot options and ECC Registered for 16GB (and larger) per slot options. Any existing 4GB and 8GB ECC non-Registered modules cannot be mixed with 16GB and larger ECC-Registered modules and will need to be removed in order to utilize these higher density memory upgrade options."

Maybe the PC3-14900L and LRDIMM is the issue? As stated above, you may need to remove your current RAM, if they are 4 or 8 GB non-Registered modules?

I think they are using "Server" since they are higher capacity and more expensive LRDIMMs.

Your reply seems to suggest I am mixing RAM, in my comment, I did not state that, and what I tested was a 'single' stick with the specs given. This machine can go up to 128 GB, I am using and testing a single 32 GB stick. To make it clear during regular use and during the test, only 1 of 4 slots are used.
edit - change MB to GB

Ahh...that also may be part of the problem. You should install RAM modules in pairs, since they use memory interleaving. Maybe if you purchased a second 32 GB stick, or returned those and got two 16 GB sticks.

Do you have the original RAM?

No - I have a 344 page Mac Pro (2013) manual and clearly states if using a single stick of RAM use slot 2
Logically, if you have a single 32GB stick and 'replace' it with a new 32GB in the same slot, providing the specs match it should work.
old 32GB works perfectly on its own - I wanted it for another computer.
Original RAM was 3 x 4GB plus 1 x 4GB - used this from 2014 till 2020
but I tend to think from your first answer, is the answer.
"Maybe the PC3-14900L and LRDIMM is the issue?" as all others specs match

OK...I had never heard that, as all other Macs used Slot 1 or (0) for a single stick. I would definitely trust the service manual.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

if you send your email address to my hotmail, I will send you a copy in PDF form - first 1-160 pages are diagnostics finding the problem but after that repairs with pictures very detailed.
