Loading Circle always comes up

Hi, I hope someone can help.

Ive had my imac for about 1 year and read a little while ago about freeing up space on the hard drive by zeroing out files etc, I started this process but had to stop it before it ended.

Since then the loading circle keeps coming up all the time when trying to use the internet.
If im scrolling down it will pop up and then also when im just reading something it will pop up not for long but its becoming more and more frequent.

Does anyone know what i can do to stop this or does it need professional help?

How much free space have you got ? Click on the drive icon and do a 'Comand + i'.

capacity states 297.77
available 258.72
used 39.05 on disk (41,931,223,040 bytes)

does that mean anything?
