iTunes won't launch

I'm using a mid-2010 macmini OS 10.13.6

After using iTunes (current: 12.8.2.3) uneventfully for years, all of a sudden it won't launch. It sticks at the Checking iTunes Library progress bar and has to be force quit. Restarting and trying to throw away the iTunes plist have no effect. Suggestions?

Hello,

Do you happen to have a recent Time Machine or other data backup?

That issue can be a bit tricky to correct from what I remember.
