Is there any way to disable Game Center?

Running iOS8 on iPhone6, I must have accidentally touched theGameCenter icon and now I can't start a simple game of Sudoku without GC demanding a log-in. (I downloaded this free Sudoku from App Store over a year ago without involving GC in any way.) I have purposely avoided doing anything through CG because I don't ever intend to do any group gaming on my phone.
Any tips or clues to get around GC?
