Disable Private Browsing for Mac Safari

Suddenly my safari in Mac OS X defaults to private browsing. I would like to reset to accept cookies, etc. Help!

I've tried to search for Xcode tools in iTunes but there is no listing. I've also naviagated to English.Iproj/ but find no MainMenu.nib file. Double help!

-Which version of OS X?

Safari
-Navigate to Safari > Preferences... > General > Safari opens with and change it to A new window instead of A new private window.

Xcode
-Xcode is not available in iTunes, it is available in the App Store application.

My mac uses OS X 10.10.5

My goodness, I don't know how many times I've been to Safari preferences and failed to do what you suggest. Thanks. Glad I don't have to get into the Xcode tools and the other methods.

Help! my Mac is doing the same thing! However, when I go into preferences it is already set to open new window, no new private window...
