Hello. I have a early 2008 iMac that is white screening. Turned it in one day and it booted into the white screen and stayed there. It will boot into safe mode and the desktop will appear. I have a time machine back up I restored from and white screen still happens. I have also reset smc and NVRAM. I ran the Apple diagnostic test disc with no issues. Also used disk utility first and no issues. The research I’ve done shows the cause of the white screen is a bad hard drive. The problem is the tests show mine hard drive is ok. Is there another utility I can use test the drive or is there some other hardware issue at fault? Thanks

I recently had a similar problem with this model. After I had replaced the hard drive the machine booted to a white screen. I rebooted while holding the option key down and chose the macintosh drive to boot to.It booted to the drive and now continues to do so at each restart.

Might be worth a try.
