Slow iMac - memory nearly full

My IMAC desk top computer is about 7 years old, I don;t use it every day. Version 10.13.6; 21.5 inch; 4G memory; It is very slow and I keep getting a message that the memory is nearly full. Is it too old?

Sounds like the hard drive may be full. Can you tell us how much free space is left?
