If I touch my locked Mac's keyboard, it flashes that it is opening with my Apple Watch

If I touch my locked M1 iMac's keyboard, it flashes that it is opening with my Apple Watch, but then switches to want my fingerprint or AppleID.

I did everything suggested by this article: https://www.lifewire.com/fix-apple-watch-not-unlocking-mac-5191765, but it appears that my Mac knows about my Apple Watch but chooses not to unlock. No big deal as I just use my fingerprint reader, but I'm wondering what's going on here.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with the Apple Watch, as I haven't used or owned one, so I can't test/troubleshoot effectively.

Hopefully another member will chime in that has experience.
