Hello and welcome.

Here is some information about that issue: If your Mac starts up to a question mark

-Which exact model Mac?
-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Do you have a current Time Machine or other backup of your data?
-Was your music purchased through the iTunes Store, or added manually?
-Which settings are you looking to retrieve?

hi, thanks for replying!

here's the dope:
model #-A1278
i forget the version, sorry
i did have time machine on it, but i never used it, and if i really want to back something up i move the data to a remote storage device... usually my yahoo inbox named newmac.

all the music was manually added from CDs

i had mostly photos, docs, and images saved to the desktop and to folders.

i hope i was clever enough to save the docs to the newmac folder in yahoo; i'm just now processing what i have to do, if anything...
