I cloud question

the cloud is turned on in settings,
It’s my understanding that photos and more will be automatically backed up, but I no idea how to access any of this, have tried a internet search and none of that info. works on my phone. Suggestions?

-Which model iPhone?
-Which version of iOS?
-Since you are signed into iCloud, do you have Photo Stream and/or iCloud Photo Library enabled in the iCloud preferences?
-How many photos do you have to backup to iCloud?
-Do you pay for any extra iCloud storage over the 5 GB you get free?
-Have you tried logging into icloud.com from a computer and then click the Photos icon to view your iCloud Photo Library?
