Help - my Iphoto is hiding!

When I open my Iphoto, the programme opens but the window is dissappearing into the dashboard when I try to work on it. This means that I can see the window but it is not activated and I can't open my pictures... as though the computer thinks I want to hide the window.
I hope the explanation is clear enough... I am not the most experienced mac-user, so I don't know what to do. Please help Thankyou
