Help! MacBook Pro Frozen

I am new to Macs and have had a MacBook Pro for about 6 months. I have never had any problems with it until it froze last night. I pressed and held the power button and restarted it, but now it only gets as far as the white startup screen then it just stays like that with the little clock thing spinning. Anyone got any suggestions before I make the long drive to my nearest Mac Store?

Try booting from the disc if you can find it. If that doesn't work take to the apple store.
