Hello!

I have a much loved, early G4 400, Graphite. The internal battery is low and the machine is kept 'plugged-in' to the mains all the time (though not switched on) - or need to re-set the date.

In trying to re-direct my lifestyle; have just aquired a treadmill, connected to the same circuit as my mac. On startup, the treadmill tripped the mains circuit off.

Don't think the mac was on but was plugged in.

Could have had something to do with above / or may be old age; no sign of life when turning on the mac.

Have checked the mains plug and fuse is OK. Looked inside for a fuse but can't see anything.

Don't know where to go. Any advice please?

Hi there Dugald and welcome,

I'll see if I can dig out a manual for that Mac later tonight...

It may well be the internal battery...

How happy are you with a multimeter ?

Ric, Hello!
Thanks for your post.

Can see the small battery on the circuit board; I'd better get a new one.

Can use a screwdriver etc. but don't have a multimeter.

Hi there,

if you can get hold of the battery, then that would be the best thing to check first !

Once you've tried the battery let us know how you get on...

Ric, Hello!

Delighted to report that the replacement battery has done the trick.

As the start button was not responding at all; had little faith that changing the internal battery would have any positive effect.
Everything seems to be fine now ( have got off lightly).

Grateful thanks for your assistance and advice.

With kindest regards.

Hi there Dugald,

I'm glad it's working !

It's nice when that happens.
