External HDs forever locked by filevault after internal HD was replaced

I have several external HDs encrypted with filevault. After my 15" macbk pro's HD became faulty and I replaced it with a new ssd, when I entered the password for the filevault on the external drives, they won't open anymore. Is there anyway around this?
