I have an external SSD drive set as the boot disk. My old desktop files from the internal drive are displaying as the default screen on my desktop. I am trying to get the external SSD drive desktop files to display as the default. I can locate them through the external drive, but I want them to be the default on the main screen. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome.

Sounds like your Mac is still starting up from the internal hard drive.

-Which version of OS X/macOS are you running on the internal and external?
-Are you sure it is starting up from the external SSD?
-Did you clone the internal to the SSD, or did you start fresh?
-Have you verified the external is set as the startup drive -  > System Preferences... > Startup Disk?
