external discs

I recently installed a 2TB WD My Book for mac on my 2009 mac pro which keeps disconnecting.
I have already got a 500GB WD disc which functions without a probem.

Any ideas please??

-Are you using a USB connection?
-Are you using the supplied power cable?
-Do you have another Mac/computer that you can connect it to for testing?

Re your questions - El Capitan - USB 3 to 2 - using supplied power cable - unfortunately don't have another mac to test on

No longer a problem since in removed one of the external drives
