eBAU108 External DVD/CD Writer & my macbook

Hi,

I'm new at this. I've just bought the above on the recommendation of a friend as my dvd drive isn't working, but despite saying it's mac os compatible, it doesn't seem to be working on my very old macbook - (mid 2009 macbook pro 17"). was this a bad purchase, or am I being thick? Or both?

Hello and welcome.

I did a quick search and it does show Mac OS compatibility, but doesn't list a version number.

-What version of OS X are you running?
-Is it recognized at all in  > About This Mac > System Report > USB?
