Commpress a file/folder

Hi
Can any one tell me the best way of sending a folder with aprox 15 pictures in. The folder is about 15mb.

If I highlight the folder and go to compress file is this the same as zipping up the file or creating an archive file.

I have looked on the web and it says right click on folder and it will give you an option to create achive, I have tried this and it does not work.

Should I zip up each file and put them back in the folder?

Can any one help.
