We've recently been converting our family films from VHS to DVD. There are a lot of important and sentimental moments in these videos, so I'd like to take pictures from them. However, when I attempt to take a screenshot, it comes up as blocked out gray and white checkerboard. Is there any way to make it not do this?

I tried using command+Shift+4 and something in Terminal. I'm really, really not very computer savvy so if you tell me to go into Terminal again I need some seriously step by step directions.

Computer info:
Macbook Pro
OSX 10.6.8

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I was under the impression that ⌘-Shift-4 only took a picture of part of the screen and that ⌘-Shift-3 took the whole screen:rolleyes:
Will just add that some applications, such as DVD Players may not let you take pictures of the screen.:(
You can also take pictures of the screen using the Grab application (in the Utilities folder).
