Can't keep fonts closed in Font Book

My Font Book used to work fine in managing my fonts. For the past few months, though, it has started to act quirky. I normally have many of my fonts disabled. Never had a problem. Now, if I disable some fonts, they stay disabled during that work session. But if I shut down my computer or reboot in any way, all my closed fonts are reopened. This never used to happen before.
I work on a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, OS 10.4.11
