cant compact disk image

hi,
i noticed my hard drive has only 2gb of space left, however ive deleted alot of things and theres still no more space.
i used disk inventory that its my home folder .sparseimage that's taking up 92gb.
i tried to compact it using terminal but i got the error

hdiutil: compact failed - Resource busy

im not sure what to do now, so any help would really be appreciated.

im using macbook 10.4.11

Out of curiosity, what's in the Sparseimage? If it's a Sparseimage of your entire Home folder and you still have everything in your Home folder, why not merely delete the Sparseimage?
