Bought a new printer and when I inser

I bought a new printer and when in put in disk with How-To Instructions, nothing happens. I've exited and re-entered the disk several times and nothing happens. Why?

-Which model Mac?
-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Which brand/model printer?

Normally, the discs that come with printers have manuals and Windows drivers. macOS has printer drivers built-in, although sometimes you may have to download them from Apple's site.
