Blank screen

Hi, Hope someone can help. Have an IMAC which I was requested to update Firmware but when I did the screen has now gone blank. Have turned everything off and back on and the power light looks on but the screen blank. Computer is about 2 years old. Have tried taking all the leads out and starting but this doesn'twork. When I put a DVD in it sounds like something is working but no real sound coming out. Any assistance to turn my screen on would be greatful. Thanks Brad:(
