blank screen

This morning I booted up successfully and did a backup and the emails. There was a window that popped up and said there were updates to install and ask to restart now. I clicked ok and it shut down and started to reboot. The reboot did not get past the white screen with the Apple logo and the small window showing progress of the reboot with a line. The progress line never got past half way and that is what I get every time I try to bring the system up.

It is up. Very slow but this time it came up. 5 tries this morning got nothing. At 1:15 it came up. Not sure what to make of it.
