battery on macbook

Hi....

i'm totally new to macs..and i wanna keep my mac for a long time..
i really dunno what i should do to prolong the batteries' life..
Is it okay if i charge the batteries while i'm using may macbook?
Or should i charge it all the time?

Oh,,i don't want to make any lil mistakes about this..because i know,,batteries is valuable for notebook..

Need ur help..Reply me asap and give me as many as possible tips and trick about this..
