There's a red nofication button at the top of my Apple Watch Clock screen, which is my regular screen (Series 5, 1/31/2020), but the screen refuses to scroll vertically. No other screen has this problem. At the same time, Watch stopped opening my iMac. Any suggestions to solve either or both of these problems?

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:

Fixing Vertical Scrolling Issue

  1. Restart Your Apple Watch:
    • Press and hold the side button until the power off slider appears.
    • Drag the slider to turn off your watch, then press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo.
  2. Force Restart Your Apple Watch:
    • If a regular restart doesn't work, try a force restart.
    • Press and hold both the side button and the Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
  3. Check for Updates:
    • Ensure your Apple Watch is running the latest version of watchOS.
    • Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
    • Go to General > Software Update and install any available updates.
  4. Check Digital Crown:
    • Sometimes dirt or debris can affect the Digital Crown's functionality.
    • Rinse the Digital Crown under lightly running, warm, fresh water from a faucet for 10-15 seconds, while continuously turning and pressing the Digital Crown. Dry your Apple Watch with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth.

Fixing the Mac Unlocking Issue

  1. Ensure Auto Unlock is Enabled:
    • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.
    • Ensure the option Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac is checked.
  2. Check Connection and Compatibility:
    • Ensure both your Mac and Apple Watch are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
    • Ensure your Mac has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.
    • Ensure your Apple Watch is running watchOS 3 or later and your Mac is running macOS Sierra or later.
  3. Restart Your Mac:
    • Sometimes, restarting your Mac can resolve connectivity issues.
    • Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner and select Restart.
  4. Reset Auto Unlock:
    • Turn off Auto Unlock and then turn it back on.
    • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.
    • Uncheck Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac, then check it again.
  5. Restart Your Apple Watch:
    • Ensure your Apple Watch is charged and restart it by pressing and holding the side button until the power off slider appears. Turn it off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.

Additional Steps

If the above steps don't resolve the issues:

  1. Unpair and Re-pair Your Apple Watch:
    • Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
    • Go to My Watch tab, tap All Watches at the top of the screen.
    • Tap the info button (i) next to your watch, then tap Unpair Apple Watch.
    • Follow the prompts to re-pair your watch.
  2. Contact Apple Support:
    • If the issues persist, contact Apple Support for further assistance. There might be a hardware or software issue that needs professional attention.
