No sound transfer from Macbook Pro to external sound bar while watching iPlayer.

I am currently residing in Italy and up to fairly recently I have been happily watching (and listening to) UK TV programmes (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc) on my Samsung TV/soundbar via my Macbook Pro utilising a VPN. A few days ago however that changed, I am still able to get a picture on the TV but now unable to get the sound to transfer (but sound still comes out of the laptop). Other downloads/streaming e.g. Youtube clips, Italian TV work fine.
I am running OS X 10.11.6
Can someone please help to rectify the problem.

Hello and welcome.

Have you tried changing the sound output in  > System Preferences... > Sound > Output to the sound bar?
