using idvd to burn a dvd and view it on a powerbook

Been driven mad today! Made some movies in imovie on leopard imac. Eventually worked out how to burn them to dvd using idvd. I want to take them away with me to show family on my powerbook but the dvds power up then just self eject. I can play bought dvds ok. What have i doone wrong?
