Using 'Audacity' to copy vinyl to computer

With my older Mac I used to be able to copy vinyl to the Mac via the programme 'Audacity' using a bulk-standard turntable. With Catalina this no longer seems to work. Moreover, looking into purchasing a more modern turntable such as the Audiotechnica AT LP120 which has a usb drive, I'm told that it won't work with Catalina.
Is this true? If so, how can I solve the problem so as to copy my vinyl collection and burn to CD?
