I know this thread is a bit aged, but in case others like me who are trying to find a way to get a generic endoscope with an .exe driver to work on a Mac, after an hour of searching and trying different ideas I found online, and having dumped Photo Booth a few months ago to regain space on an 80 GB drive (yes, it is possible to fill one up) I tried what I should have done from the very beginning. I opened Quicktime Player. It worked perfectly.

Photo Booth Worked! Woot! After you open Photo Booth, look in the top menu bar for "camera", and the USB 2.0 camera is hopefully there for you as it was for me. Thank you so much for suggesting that Thank you oldscribe(s)! I have a a Nestling endoscope by the way, not sure what model though, bought off ebay for $12.00

hello1 Followed this post as I had the exact same question and quandary - and it does work with Photo Booth - MAC OSX … thanks very much!

It does work with Photo Booth but there is a power problem, not a camera problem. Most of these cameras have LEDs at the tip; these draw too much power from the USB port on the mac (mine is a Powerbook Pro) than the mac can handle. If you have a brightness control, try turning it down or off and then just turn on Photo Booth; on the Camera menu, the USB camera should show up. When you turn the light up, it will likely stay on for a moment before it disconnects. This is useless if your camera is being placed somewhere where there is little light. My solution has been to use an external USB port extension that is powered independently. Note: This is not a USB power charging port, but a USB that plugs into the mac and has another power transformer that plugs separately into an outlet. The LEDs get enough power and the mac gets the signals from the camera.

Hello,
I am trying to get a USB Snake Scope camera (Sentient N41GW) to run on my MacBook Air which is running on Sierra 10.12.5. I have read through previous comments but can't get this camera option to come up on PhotoBooth or QuickTime Player despite following previous tips.
Previously run this kit on Windows Vista using WinRar.
Any further advice please or do I bin it:(

Hi Jonco. I may be retreading over territory you've already visited, but the issue appears to be between Sierra and Quicktime, not any particular device. Here are some threads that may be helpful. Good luck.

Thanks for response Len - have tried the suggestions in the first thread but no joy. Have to admit I am out of my depth on these matters and need more than luck so may have done it wrong. When I plug the USB in, I am getting power connection but no indication that my Mac is seeing device.

The problem is power: the camera, due to the LEDs, draws a lot of current and most USB ports cannot supply enough. I have managed to get around the problem by using an externally powered USB extension port. This is not just an externally powered USB port; it is an extension from the computer's USB that is powered separately from the computer itself. Only then was there sufficient power to the camera that allowed it to be seen by photo booth. It works well then; however, it is a bit clumsy over just plugging into the mac.

Thanks - I had read your earlier post advising this and had turned LED's to minimum but obviously not enough. Will look into extension port options.
