upgrade my g4 to 0s 10.3

hi i have a g4 power mac running version 10.3.9
processor is a dual 1 Ghz power pc g4
2 mb L3 cache per processor
with 512 MB SDRAM

i am trying to upgrade and have got my hands on an install disc for tiger but it won't install - is this because teh 10.4 is for tiger? i am a novice on macs but am really losing out as the 10.3 will not let me access a lot of website info i would like.
help me obewan you are my only chance!!!!

Tiger should be able to be installed on your Mac. Here are Tiger's system requirements.
Follow these steps to install Tiger.

get as far as choosing the language and then i get a message
Alert this software cannot be installed on this computer.
is thi sbecause the software is for a G5 and i have a G4? or is there something else amiss with my computer?

What is written on your Tiger disc and which color is it?

Mac OS x install disc 1

Mac os version 10.4.2
AHT2.5.3
its a grey disc with a white edge

You're going to need the black retail Tiger disc. The disc that you have will not work on your Mac.

Bear in mind that if you want to install the most recent Mac operating system, that will run on your particular Mac, that would be Leopard. Assuming of course that you have a DVD drive.
