Trans mp3 files to iPad from iMac?

I recently got a 6th Gen iPad and am setting it up. I've got tons of mp3 files that I'd like to sync up with my IMac. If I run the included USB C cord to the Mac, it doesn't show up on my desktop or in Finder. Doe anybody know how I can transfer the mp3 files from the Mac to the iPad or how to sync them up?

Depending on the total size of the files you could use iCloud and even store them permanently there. For just copying files you could use AirDrop if your iMac supports it.
