time machine problem

just set up airport extreme base station,hooked up external drive to base station, how do i get time machine to recognize this drive? my macbook displays the drive as "shared" as if it were a server... any suggestions?:confused:
puzzled in florida.

Hello Artbyallen1 and Welcome!

Currently, Time Machine doesn't support hard drives connected to an Airport Extreme Base Station. I guess Apple found too many bugs within the system or something. Hopefully they can get "Airdisk" support running on Time Machine soon. If you want to use time machine, I recommend hooking up your Hard drive directly to your computer.
