Text Messaging on iPad and iPhone

I have a brand new iPad and iPhone, both with latest software updates. The message settings are exactly the same on both devices, yet when I text on my iPhone, the messages don’t show up on my iPad. Anybody else have this problem?

Are you using the same iCloud account and do you have iCloud > Messages enabled on both devices?
